Dr. Hesham Zaki, Business Development Manager, AlBaraka Forum for Islamic Economy, inaugurated the panel, emphasizing on the profound significance of the concept of reviving the earth, inspired by the teachings of the Quran. He referred to the verse from Surah Hud: “He initiated you from the earth, and He settled you on it”, explaining that shaping the earth goes beyond constructing buildings and infrastructure; as it also encompasses fostering life, developing individuals, and empowering them as key drivers of development. Dr. Hesham further highlighted the vital role played by civil society organizations in empowering individuals and communities and forging strategic partnerships with both the public and private sectors. These efforts, he stressed, are essential to achieving sustainable development goals and creating a more prosperous and sustainable future.
Mr. Hammam Zare, Chief Executive Officer, Saleh Abdullah Kamel Humanitarian Foundation, explained that it was established after the passing of Sheikh Saleh Kamel in 2021 in Saudi Arabia, and in Egypt, it was founded by the end of 2023. He further clarified that the Foundation is based on three main pillars: the legacy of Sheikh Saleh Kamel, Saudi Arabia Vision 2030, and the Sustainable Development Goals. He also highlighted that the Foundation focuses on key areas such as social empowerment and the revival of the Arabic language, highlighting the Foundation’s partnership with the Ministry of Hajj and its positive impact on the culture of reception in the front rows and training of workers under the process of continuous improvement. He also explained the Foundation’s reliance on partnerships and issues of the elderly and the blind, in addition to issues for treatment. Medical and feeding in Mecca and pilgrims.
Eng. Tareq Ali Balkhasher, Executive General Director, Hadhramout Foundation – Human Development, began his speech by extending heartfelt thanks and appreciation to AlBaraka Forum for Islamic Economy and all the sponsors. He highlighted the pioneering role the foundation plays in the social and developmental fields, serving Yemen on a non-profit basis. He explained that, in alignment with its commitment to sustainable development, the foundation expanded in 2019 by opening an office in the United States, which has contributed to enhancing its programs aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including eradicating poverty and hunger, ensuring good health and well-being, providing quality education, and promoting gender equality. Eng. Tareq emphasized that Hadhramout Foundation is actively involved in education, shedding light on its groundbreaking initiative for girls’ education in the Doan area of Hadhramout. This initiative marked a significant turning point in empowering girls, enabling many of them to complete their education and even pursue scholarships abroad, after years of struggling to study beyond the sixth grade.
Eng. Rawhi Elaraby, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the New Republic Foundation for Development, tackled the Foundation’s different vision in the field of civil work, as he explained that the market was studied extensively and then a formula was developed to change civil society and change the thinking of institutions and associations, in addition to setting a fingerprint to focus on sustainability, partnerships, governance, quality and impact measurement, mentioning the efforts made to improve citizens’ lives. He highlighted that tomorrow, the “New Life” program will be launched, offering a range of services to citizens, including 5,400 discounted medical services across various governorates. He also discussed the importance of awareness, training, and education, as well as the potential to fill gaps in the existing civil society institutions in Egypt. Eng. Rawhi also emphasized the partnerships and collaborations with civil society organizations in Arab countries.
Dr. Hamad Abdul Rahman Albigishi, Executive Director, the Fujairah Social and Cultural Association, in the United Arab Emirates, emphasized that the organization primarily focuses on youth and is founded on the principles of volunteerism and public benefit. It welcomes participants and volunteers from diverse backgrounds in a country that is home to over 240 nationalities, Dr. Hamad highlighted the association’s dedication to various groups, including women, children, and promoting sports, as well as supporting people of determination. He explained the organization’s commitment to integrating these groups into creative and diverse small projects, in addition to conducting training workshops aimed at enhancing their skills and empowering them to contribute effectively to society, during his participation, Dr. Hamad emphasized the importance of youth ideas in advancing the association’s mission, which has spanned over 31 years. He also highlighted the association’s pivotal role in building effective partnerships that contribute to promoting culture and preserving national identity, while emphasizing the value of respecting cultural diversity to enhance coexistence and understanding within the UAE’s diverse society.
The panel was concluded with some of the participants’ questions being received and answered by the speakers.
It is worth noting that the panel was held during the fifth edition of the Arab Sustainable Development Week themed “Sustainable Solutions for the Future: embracing resilience, adaptability, and progress in the ever-evolving Arab world” in Triumph Luxury Hotel, Cairo, Egypt.
